Reflections on a Gift of Watermelon Pickle Received from a Friend Called Felicity

This poem reminds me of the times when I was younger and almost anything was possible. When you are young you are not afraid to get dirty, to imagine the impossible, or of what other people will think of you. You do what you want to. (Unless of course mom or dad tells you not to.) I remember that when I was little I would run around outside and get as dirty as possible. When I would return to my mom and house afterwards, I would be covered in mud and have cuts scratches covering my arms and legs. Another thing that this poem reminds me of is my love for watermelon. I have always had a passion for watermelon. I could eat it any day of the week for any meal. Watermelon is a summer fruit and with it come nostalgic memories and feelings of long summer days on the beach or with my friends. That is what this poem means to me and what it reminds me of.

Toothpaste??

As you know fluoride is already added to toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay, but could this same fluoride be added to our drinking water? But, before fluoride could be used widely in toothpastes scientists needed to find an abrasive that didn’t mess up the sodium fluoride dissociation. There are many different views and opinions on this subject. Those opposed to this say that adding fluoride in drinking water actually makes teeth more brittle, and can add rust colored stains. Other’s say that fluoride was once used as a rat poison and that it is extremely dangerous. Some even say that it can lower the I.Q. of children! Although there is no true answer to whether or not fluoride in drinking water is good or bad, I believe that adding fluoride to drinking water is a wise decision. I believe this because we know that fluoride in toothpaste helps prevent tooth decay, and even though this is a slightly different type of fluoride I believe that it will still have the same effect on the healthiness of teeth. The one side effect that does worry me is the possibility of my teeth becoming brittle. (Nobody wants a broken tooth) With brittle and easily broken teeth I would have to be much more conscientious about the foods that I put into my mouth. If fluoride in drinking water does cause brittle teeth, and I ate something crunchy then my tooth could crack and cause many serious problems. That is why I am concerned about the possibility of brittle teeth as a side-effect. Over all I believe that the adding of fluoride to drinking water can only benefit our society and its oral problems.

This a good video of the possible dangers of fluoride.
